ABOUT

Calcium, Calcium Supplements & RBTI

IS THERE A RECOMMENDATION FOR ALGAZIM?
The recommendation chart for Algazim was inadvertently left out of the current printing of The Calcium Kit. The next printing will include it. The recommendation for Algazim is as follows:
Persons 12 years and over can use 2 capsules per meal.
If also have health problems, can use 3 capsules per meal.
Children, ages 4 to 11, use 1 capsule per meal.
Children, under age 4, use 1 capsule per day.

SHOULD I KEEP TAKING ALL MY MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS WHILE I AM DOING MY pH RETEST?
Yes, it is very important that you continue all your supplements during the time of your pH retests. You want your pH to reflect the improvements you have accomplished while on the proper calcium supplements according to pH.

WHEN I FOLLOW THE ONION SOUP RECIPE, THERE IS VERY LITTLE LIQUID LEFT AFTER COOKING. WHAT CAN BE DONE?
You can add additional water after or during the cooking process so that you end up with a quart of liquid  broth when all is done. Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, so it stays in the water. You can add the additional water, up to 1 quart total, after cooking the broth, when made according to the recipe—this is the concentration we are looking for.

ACCORDING TO MY pH TEST I AM NEEDING ONION SOUP TO GET MY VITAMIN C. IS IT OK TO MAKE EXTRA AND FREEZE IT?
Yes, it is perfectly OK to make extra Onion Soup and freeze it.

WOULD YOU CLARIFY HOW TO USE THE pH TAPE REELS TO RUN MY URINE AND SALIVA pHs?
When using the pH test tapes to test your urine and saliva, you may need to use test strips from both of the pH tape reels, since one chart and reel covers a pH range from 5.5 to 8.0 and the other chart and reel covers a pH range from 4.0 to 5.5 as shown in The Calcium Kit.

To illustrate : To run a pH test on either urine or saliva, first take a piece of test tape from the 5.5 to 8.0 tape reel. If you have a reading above 5.5, then you are done testing that sample and can record the reading you obtained. If, however, your reading is 5.5, then you need to take a strip of pH test tape from the reel that has the range of 4.0 to 5.5 and test with it to determine how far below 5.5 you are with that sample.  Record that reading. This allows you to utilize the full range (covering both pH ranges of the tape reels included with your kit) from 4.0 to 8.0.

If you started your testing with a strip of pH test tape from the reel covering the pH range of 4.0 to 5.5, you would do the reverse. If your test strip reads below 5.5, then that is your reading for that sample and you can record it. If your reading is 5.5, then take a piece of test tape from the other pH tape reel and see how high above 5.5 your test actually reads.

HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO TAKE THE CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS?
Your body requires more calcium than any other mineral in your diet. Unfortunately, the best of our food available in today's best produce stands can have anywhere from only 15 to 40% of the mineral nutrients that it should have. This results in the majority of people being overfed and undernourished as they will continue to eat since their calcium needs are not being satisfied. When you discover the right calciums your body needs, through the use of The Calcium Kit , you have discovered the key mineral that your food is lacking in. You have discovered the missing link in all of the food you have eaten and are eating. Do you only need to eat for a while? Do you only need to buy groceries just a few months out of your life? Would you stop consuming something that your life depended upon? Dis-ease is because calcium isn't. Calcium is food. Supplying the body with what it needs to function effectively means being committed for a lifetime to consuming rightly and regularly, the necessary mineral for abundant health.

I AM VERY CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I EAT. I DON'T EAT "JUNK FOOD" ETC. IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET THE NUTRITION FROM THE FOOD ITSELF SO I DON'T HAVE TO SUPPLEMENT WITH CALCIUM AND VITAMIN CAPSULES?
I would like to emphasize  that the fruits and vegetables you consume, even if they are grown under the "best" "organic" conditions have anywhere from 15 to 40% if the nourishment they should actually have. This means that your stomach is not big enough to eat enough of that deficient food to get all the vitamins and minerals it requires for optimum health and well-being. When we consider the processed and prepackaged foods on the store shelves, they are even poorer in calcium content, except for one category—dairy. Yes, of all the foods available, your dairy-based foods provide the best potential for a natural calcium source. However, even in this category, better than most other food source categories, it is important to remember that the dairy herds are also eating mineral-deficient foods, grown on the same mineral-deficient soils as the foods you eat. Did you know that the average dairy cow is lucky to last two to three milking seasons after maturity because of the lack of proper mineral nutrition in its diet. Yes, it is off to the slaughter house, when the cow is unable keep up good milk production, which is simply due to lack of nutrition. And then, who eats the beef from that cow? And we all know the answer to that.

IF I MISS TESTING FOR A FULL DAY DURING THE 7-DAY pH TESTS DO I NEED TO START ALL OVER AGAIN?
No, you may continue on.  Remember, the 7-day test is for determining the average pH of your urine and saliva. If you happen to miss a day or two, just make sure you have at least 7 days worth of test results so you can average those. If it takes you 10 days to get 7 days worth of tests that is OK.

THE pH OF MY URINE IS A CONSIDERABLY DIFFERENT NUMBER THEN THE pH OF MY SALIVA. IS THAT TO BE EXPECTED?
This is quite common. Due to the endemic and massive amount of calcium deficiency afflicting our population, often the number readings between the urine and saliva are not the same. In simple terms, the pH of the saliva is giving an indication of what the liver is trying to do to counteract what is happening in the general extra-cellular fluid of the body. When the general extra-cellular fluid environment of the cells cannot maintain a proper acid-base balance, the liver tries to compensate by using its ability to influence general body pH by pulling in the opposite pH direction. We call this a "split" pH and it is an indication of chronic indigestion. This is a sign of significant calcium deficiency. Chronic biochemical indigestion may not be something the person is aware of but it is occurring nevertheless.

MY URINE pH WAS RUNNING IN THE UPPER 5s SO I STARTED USING THE CALCIUMS THAT The Calcium Kit RECOMMENDS FOR THAT pH RANGE. WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM EXPERIENCING SOME CONSTIPATION?

As Dr. Reams discovered, the pH of overall body chemistry, as measured from properly and timely voided urine and saliva samples reveals, among many things, the speed which the contents of the digestion are moving. This is typically referred to as “bowel transit time.” When the pH of the urine and saliva are both at 6.40 the “bowel transit time” should be approximately 18 hours. That is to say, it should ideally take about 18 hours for food swallowed to move from the mouth and out the rectum. When the pHs are below 6.40 this says that the “bowel transit time” may be too fast. The further below 6.40 the potentially faster the digestion can be even to extreme of diarrhea. When the pHs are above 6.40 this is indicating that the “bowel transit time” is too slow. The further above 6.40 the slower or more constipated one will usually be.

Dr. Reams also discovered that the calcium content of the diet has the greatest influence on the digestive activity, speed and the resulting acid base reactions that influence body pH and ultimately body health. When one begins to follow the recommendations of The Calcium Kit according to urine pH to determine how to properly supplement vital calciums missing in our foods, it is not uncommon to experience some constipation in certain situations. This usually happens when one’s average urine pH is below 6.40, (while the average saliva pH is above 6.40) and they begin to use the calciums that the charts show will move their urine pH up toward 6.40. When this happens, here are some other factors that one needs to pay attention to. “Bowel transit time” is not only significantly influenced by calcium content of the foods and food supplements within the digestion, but it is also affected by Water, Lubricants, Fiber, Exercise and No No Foods

WATER:
“Bowel transit time” is also strongly influenced by the consistency of the food materials. If one does not drink enough water in their daily lifestyle, this means the gut content can be dehydrated or too dry. Pay close attention to water drinking if having problems with constipation while using the correct calciums.

LUBRICANTS:
The gut content must have the proper lubricants in order to help assure proper “bowel transit time.” The first lubricant that is vital to the consistency of the gut content comes from the saliva. Healthy saliva contains proteins called mucins which act as lubricants to help prevent the food from sticking to the wall of the digestive tract. Dehydration and poor liver function can contribute to the lack of these special salivary lubricating mucins. Problems with dry mouth are due to the salivary glands not operating properly and this can be due to poor liver function. One of the chief factors contributing to dry mouth is the use of sea salt according to Dr. Reams in addition to not consuming enough water in the daily diet.

Poor quality foods will not only be mineral deficient, but they will also be oil deficient. Yes poor quality foods contribute to constipation because of the lack of proper natural oils in the foods. To compensate for the poor oil content of the foods available, add more oils into the daily diet. Olive oil is one of the oils of choice to use. If one is experiencing constipation while following recommendations derived from The Calcium Kit, this may be the sign to add extra olive oil into the daily diet.

Gelatin is also a natural lubricant. Gelatin comes from both plant and animal based foods. If one is experiencing constipation, adding more lubricating gelatins into the diet can be very valuable. One reason why hospitals give so much Jello to their patients.

FIBER:
Fiber from raw leafy veggies as well as raw whole veggies, is vital to helping maintain proper consistency of the bowel contents, i.e., proper “bowel transit time.” Raw fruits are also very valuable because they not only add pectin fiber but they also add water as well. When one experiences constipation following the recommendations of The Calcium Kit, it could be a sign that more raw leafy salads and raw whole vegetables should be included in the diet as well as raw whole fruits. Fruits like fresh pears and pineapple are especially good as well as the tropical fruits papaya and mangoes.

EXERCISE:
Exercise plays a significant part in promoting proper “bowel transit time.” Exercise has a stimulating effect on the natural rhythmic muscular contractions of the walls of the gut which propels the food contents along through the digestive tract. By far the best exercise to help stimulate the digestion is walking. If one is experiencing constipation, it may be a sign that the amount and type of exercise in the daily experience needs to be looked at.

FOOD TYPES:
There are food types that can certainly play a part in slowing the “bowel transit time.” If one is experiencing constipation while on their calcium program, it would certainly be important to take an inventory of foods that may be adding to the slowing transit time. Here is a list of foods that one should take a look at: Hard and aged cheese, all types of fresh breads and pizzas, nut butters of all types, pastas, crackers.

IF I AM CALCIUM DEFICIENT, WHY DO SOME OF THE MINERAL TESTS I HAVE HAD DONE IN THE PAST, SUCH AS A HAIR ANALYSIS, SHOW EXCESS CALCIUM?
While I was researching about how to properly understand mineral nutrition in my dental patients, I studied the pros and cons of hair analysis for quite sometime. I did a great deal of hair analysis and one thing I typically observed was that the greater the manifestation of dental disease, the more common it was to find excess calcium showing in the hair analysis. At that time it did not make sense. However, after learning, understanding and implementing Dr. Reams' urine and saliva techniques, I very soon understood why this happens. In fact, I know for a fact that all apparent calcium excesses, appearing anywhere in the body, including such things as bone spurs, joint deposits, concretions and stones, even high blood calcium, are all a result of calcium deficiency. Calcium excesses in the body are the body's way of telling us that it is not getting the proper calcium in the food and is having to go into its own calcium stores, no matter how meager they may be, to try and satisfy its calcium needs. However, calcium deficiency is calcium imbalance and that very imbalance is what is causing calcium to become excessive in particular areas or tissues of the body.

WHY, WHEN I HAD TAKEN CALCIUM IN THE PAST, DIDN'T I FEEL GOOD UPON TAKING IT? NOW, WITH THE CALCIUM I AM TAKING, WHICH IS BASED ON THE CALCIUM KIT,  IT IS NOT EFFECTING ME IN THE SAME WAY?
That is wonderful news. You are taking the right calciums for your body's particular electrochemical needs! You have used a proper understanding of your body's pH and you are personally witnessing the benefits.

I HAVE A HARD TIME SWALLOWING "PILLS." ANY HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS SINCE, ACCORDING TO MY pH, I NEED TO TAKE QUITE A FEW CALCIUM AND VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS?
You need to take a different look at your mineral and vitamin supplements. They are not "pills." They are concentrated food. Just as you take food in at your meal time one bite at a time, you need to take in your supplements. Therefore, instead of trying to swallow a fist full of supplements at one time, try popping a capsule or two into your mouth just as you are getting ready to swallow a mouthful of food. Use your food that your are swallowing as the vehicle to carry in the supplements, then you will not feel bloated from washing all the supplements down with a large amount of water.

If you need a little fluid to help, along with the food, to allow the supplement to go down, you can certainly sip a small amount of liquid.

It can also be helpful, to drink through a straw while attempting to swallow tablets or capsules, because of the way your mouth shapes itself while drinking from a straw. This can be helpful for children, that are learning to swallow supplements.

And, speaking of children, just open the capsules and mix up these supplements in their food. Adults can find that helpful as well.

CAN I TEST OTHER THINGS WITH THE pH PAPER TO SEE IF THEY ARE ACID OR ALKALINE?
You can test anything that is liquid, except water by itself. The tape does not react in water by itself.

SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO EAT A FOOD THAT IS ALKALINE OR ACID?
The mineral quality of a food can directly effect the pH of your body chemistry. The poorer the calcium content, say of a fresh fruit, for example, the more acid the fruit will contain. Most fruit today, has way too much natural acid, because of the poor calcium content. Calcium is a natural acid buffer in fruit and vegetables that have a proper quantity of calcium grown into the fruit from a soil that has proper calcium content.

Additionally, everyone should be aware of the calcium-robbing ingredients that are very often used in food preparation as a cheap source of flavor enhancement. A very good example is vinegar. Distilled white vinegar is probably one of the most common condiments used in food preparation today. White vinegar is acetic acid, which is not good for the liver, even though the liver can tolerate it best when the body's pH is above 6.4. When the body's pH is below 6.2 it is especially noxious to the liver's valuable functions. Even what is considered the "good" vinegar, real apple cider vinegar (which is malic acid), is not good for the liver in pH ranges below 6.2. Whereas, in pH ranges above 6.4 the real apple cider vinegar can be a valuable ingredient to be a small part of the diet on behalf of the liver.

If your urine pH is above 6.6 foods that have proper acids in them can be included in the diet and these will include the fruit acids known as citric acid, which are valuable to liver function.

One other point here. The concepts of "acid-ash foods" verses "alkaline-ash foods" that have circulated for several decades, have very little relevance to proper electrochemical pH of the body. First of all, your body does not determine the pH of the "ash" of a food like the proponents did so do on a laboratory bench in order to attempt to prove their hypothesis. Second, all foods are acid in comparison to healthy natural digestive enzymes that originate in a healthy liver. Biological Ionization looks at the quality, based on the sugar and calcium content of a food, versus the quality of the digestive enzymes, shown by the pH, to determine how a food will effect the digestion. So called "alkaline ash foods" are in reality acid in the light of natural digestive enzymes. This means pay attention to your pH as compared to the quality of the food you are consuming. The more calcium deficient the food, the more acid it will react in your body's chemistry, while the higher its natural calcium content the less acid it will react.

I USE SEASALT. DOESN'T THAT HAVE SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNTS OF GOOD MINERAL IN IT?
Well, I will have to comment to the contrary and clearly put forth that, no, it does not. In fact, sea salt has a great deal of mineral, but it is not the best for you. Here's why. One of the major tasks your liver must accomplish is the processing of waste from your body's regular wear and tear so that it can easily be expelled through the eliminative organs. One of the by-products of that wear and tear is salt. But it is not just ordinary salt like table salt, that we know of as sodium chloride. Rather, it is actually a complex of around 49 different mineral salts which includes sodium chloride, but also 48 other types of salt, as well, that include non-chloride type salts such as nitrogen salts from protein waste etc. What, then, does that mean to your body? Sea salt contains upwards of 49 different salt of just those types that your body is trying to rid itself of. When your body is calcium deficient, your liver finds that it cannot rid itself of all of its waste salts, so it stores the excess. These excess salts can be stored in a number of places and end up contributing to a significant  number of degenerative dysfunctions.

Two things help your liver rid the body of excess detrimental salts. First, is proper water drinking for your body size and chemistry, and second is having optimum calcium intake. When the liver is getting optimum calcium and water, it can actually oxidize the waste salts in your body out of solution, then the body can easily remove them through the eliminative system.

Salt is very valuable to body chemistry, when it is kept under control by ideal body electrochemistry through optimum calcium intake, but you are better off using only one-salt and that salt being—just plain sodium chloride.

Furthermore, when people would complain of problems with dry mouth Dr. Reams would tell them, "Quit using seasalt!" By the way, Keltic Salt is no different in its salt content and effect on body chemistry than Sea Salt.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I NEED TO DETOXIFY MY BODY BEFORE I START TAKING CALCIUM AND OTHER MINERAL SUPPLEMENTATION. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?
This is a belief that I run into quite often, so let me share with you my view in the light of what I know about the electrochemistry of the body. The liver is the most important organ in the body, next to the brain, because its functions can be grouped into two main areas. One, has to do with manufacturing all the precursor building blocks for all the cells and tissues in the body. That is to say, the liver is the source of all the building and maintenance material that cells, organs and tissues need to continue their well-being. Two, has to do with detoxification of the body. That is, the liver is the organ that has to preprocess and process all of the body's metabolic waste in order for it to be removed by the eliminative organs. The detoxification function of the liver is dependent directly on the liver's primary function, feeding and maintaining of the body's cells and organs. In order for the liver to feed and care for the body, it must be fed and cared for properly through the diet and life-style that provide the right amount of water, oxygen and calcium. It stands to reason, if the liver is not being fed and cared for properly, it cannot carry out its second group of responsibilities—detoxification of the body.

From my experience with body chemistry, it is very rare that one needs to do any serious detoxification before feeding the liver its proper calcium. Once the liver starts receiving its needed water, oxygen and calcium, its natural detoxification process will be stimulated into regular action.

If you feel you really need to detoxify, I would recommend that you take three days off for absolute bed rest, consume a very light diet and increase your consumption of distilled water to flush out the eliminative organs. It is simple and inexpensive.

THE WATER I HAVE BEEN DRINKING IS QUITE ACID. DO YOU THINK THAT IS A PROBLEM?
It is possible that it certainly could be aggravating calcium deficiency in your diet similar to the way vinegar can effect one's body chemistry, because of its excess acidity. My recommendation, as explained in The Calcium Kit, is to switch to drinking steam distilled water. If one does not drink steam distilled water, it becomes even more vital to start increasing one's calcium intake according to The Calcium Kit in order to offset the acid water being consumed.

WHAT ABOUT THE ALKALINIZED DRINKING WATER MADE BY SOME HOME WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS? IS IT OK TO USE IF YOUR pH IS TOO ACID?
If Dr. Reams were alive today, he would first say that, "drinking water alkalinizer systems are a fad and worthless to address the mineral chemistry problems of the human body." He would then add that, "people who design and promote these systems, as a health benefit, know nothing about human body electrochemistry." To fully understand why drinking alkaline ionized water (which is simply a type of homemade mineral water) is absolutely not recommended, one needs to again read about the benefits of steam distilled water in The Calcium Kit. Additionally, you can download an article about the benefits of distilled water by going to the RBTI Article page. We have encountered individuals who ended up with more health problems than they started with because of following the ignorant and unscientific alkalinizing fads that are continuing to be promoted.

Please see another question below that also addresses distilled water issues also.

I HAVE READ YOUR GARDEN BOOK NOURISHMENT HOME GROWN. IS SOIL pH AS CRITICAL TO THE PLANT AS pH IS TO THE  BODY?
The answer is no, but let me elaborate. You can grow most garden vegetables and fruits in a wide range of soil pHs for several reasons. First, the plant is a much lower frequency entity and, therefore, more dependent on energy release from the soil for growth than pH. Proper soil energy release is directly dependent on the available calcium in the soil. So as long as there is sufficient calcium available in the soil, and the gardener knows how to control the soil energy release, which is explained in my garden book, soil pH does not have any significant effect on plant growth and development. Of course as you build the calcium reserves in your garden soil, you may find the pH going higher, especially if you have had an acid soil in your garden, and that is OK. Because humans and animals are on a much higher frequency than plants, pH of the internal body environment is a very critical part of controlling the energy release and frequency adjustment of the food energy, released during digestion, to properly feed the animal or human.

One other point. If the soil in your garden is around a pH of 7.0 or above, uninformed soil scientists may advise you that you have sufficient calcium in your garden. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM!!! You cannot tell the amount of available calcium in your garden soil by the pH. To know the amount of available calcium you must have the proper type of soil tests run. I cover this topic, for the backyard gardener, in Nourishment Home Grown .

HOW DOES EXERCISE EFFECT MY BODY'S pH?
Exercise that works the large muscles of you body, causes the muscles to produce a by-product that is very acid. It is called Lactic Acid. What we have found is that people who have pHs below 6.2 can make their pH more acid by hard exercise. And, believe it or not, people whose pHs run in the acid ranges, more often than not, do not like hard exercise. It appears that these individuals are listening to their bodies. On the other hand, people who have pHs that run in the alkaline ranges above 6.6 can benefit their pH by hard exercise. That is, the Lactic Acid the muscles produce during hard exercise can help lower body pHs that are in the alkaline ranges. And yes, you guessed it, people who run an alkaline pH, above 6.6, tend to like hard exercise.
